Home Video Tips

Keep off the Zoom button. Frame your shot , and then hold steady and let your subjects provide all the movement and action .

Pay attention to Audio. Since you most likely won’t be using an external mic ... you need to stay very close to your subject, and out of the wind.

Lighting Indoors. Don’t shoot your subject in front of bright windows. If it’s bright outside, try and place your subject so that they are side lit by the window light. Indoor shots will look best when shot at dawn or dusk or dark cloudy days, anytime your outside windows aren’t very bright will really help.

Lighting Outdoors. Look for even lighting situations and avoid shots that consist of bright light and shadows, chose one or the other. If you have a choice try and avoid shooting at noon  due to the harsh shadows .

Always shoot an extra 10 seconds after you think you are done with your shot, this will leave you some “handles” which are essential in the editing process.

Think about shooting some transition or beauty shots , this will help you immensely when you begin the editing process , and need some footage to get from one scene to the next.
